Cosmetic Dentistry

It is never too late to have a healthy, beautiful smile. There is a variety of innovations available that can restore your teeth to a condition that you’ll be proud to display. Whether your teeth are worn, discolored, or missing, Oxford Family Dentistry has the expertise to create a plan that will have you smiling. We offer a free cosmetic consultation for patients who may be interested in a “smile makeover” and will discuss with you the many options you have to choose from.

Tooth Colored Fillings are a more attractive alternative to visible amalgam fillings and are made of composite resin. By matching the color of your teeth you have a restoration that is virtually invisible. When a new cavity needs filling, many patients now choose the tooth colored fillings for a more natural appearance. Many patients also opt to replace their older amalgam fillings with tooth colored fillings for a more appealing smile.

Crowns are a tooth shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, appearance, to hold a bridge in place or cover a dental implant. A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

  • To protect a weak tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  • To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth
  • To cover a dental implant

Bridges are replacement teeth that are designed to “bridge” a gap created by one or more missing teeth. Bridges are anchored on either side by crowns and cemented permanently into place

Implants are replacement tooth roots that consists of a small post that is placed into the bone socket where the tooth is missing. The implant is covered with a replacement tooth called a crown.

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are made of acrylic resin sometimes combined with metal attachments. Complete dentures replace all the teeth; partial dentures are considered when some of the natural teeth remain and are retained by clasps attached to the natural teeth.

Inlays and Onlays – Also known as “indirect fillings”, inlays and onlays offer a well-fitting, stronger, longer lasting repair than traditional fillings. These restorations are beneficial from both an esthetic and functional point of view. While dental fillings are molded into place within the mouth during a dental visit, inlays and onlays are fabricated in a dental lab before being fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth. An “inlay” is when the material is bonded within the center of the tooth, an “onlay” is used when the damage requires inclusion of one or more points of the tooth or full coverage of the biting surface.

Dental Veneers – Dental veneers are sometimes called porcelain veneers or laminates. Veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth colored porcelain designed to cover the surface of teeth to improve their appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing the color, shape, size, or length. Veneers are routinely used to fix teeth that are discolored, chipped or broken, worn down or irregular.
